Product Description
Shady money dealings fuel Brown's solid 18th mystery featuring Mary Minor Haristeen and her cat pal, Sneaky Pie (after 2008's Santa Clawed). Aunt Talley Urquhart is looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday at her Fulton, Mo., alma mater, real-life William Woods University, but all is not well at WWU. Stockbroker Flo Langston, class of '74, is sure her hated classmate, Mariah D'Angelo, who heads the WWU Alumnae Association, has mishandled university funds. Mariah misses Aunt Talley's party and vanishes. Then someone shoots Flo dead at home in St. Louis after Flo reveals that Mariah has been selling fake high-end watches. Taunting messages (e.g., Catch me if you can) begin arriving in computer in-boxes of various WWU alumnae, including Inez Carpenter, Aunt Talley's 98-year-old best friend. Faithful fans already familiar with the characters will enjoy the cozy antics, but others may struggle to pay attention until people start dying.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Insights from MainStreet   September 7, 2010

Enjoyed the book immensely and was never offended but was rather thrilled to have the author's insights into our current political malaise. The problems with powers that be never listening to what their consituents are saying is not new but here is an author who is not politically correct but is rather politically savvy. She and Sneaky Pie have the courage to tell it like it is.
I am absolutely enthralled with Aunt Tally and only wish we had more of her in the book. The adventures of the Corgi and Kitties are also terrific as usual. Great read!!

I have always loved reading Rita Mae Brown since I was introduced to her in collage. When she came out with mystery series involving pets, it was a natural progression for her. Cat of the Century, as always, introduced new pets and characters and that is the reason I have enjoyed the mystery series. Aunt Tally has become a favorite character of mine and it was nice
to see a story revolve around her, her friends and getting to know more about this feisty women. Anyone who can best Big Mim is a lady not to be taken lightly. For the fan of Ms. Brown and for the fan of Ms. Sneaky Pie, you will love this one as well

5 out of 5 stars Another Rita Mae Brown hit!   June 3, 2010

I've been a fan of Rita Mae Brown for a long time and enjoy her writings. I love all the stories of Virginia and fox hunting and farming. Her Mrs. Murphy series has been so much fun. Having two elderly cats who chatter, meow and howl to get our attention, I can relate to the assumed animal dialogue of the stories. Ms Brown has a great writing style with a tickle my funny bone sense of humor. The mysteries involved in these particular stories are always fun to follow, along with the continuing caste of characters in both the Sister Jane and Mrs. Murphy series. I am mentioning both series because to me they are related in that they take place in the same geographic location, they are both mystery series, and there is great importance in animals to the story lines.
If you are a follower of Ms Brown's mysteries, you'll enjoy this latest addition of Mrs. Murphy's adventures. I can't wait for the next one!

If you love animals and a good mystery and a feeling that you're living right there with them as you read the pages then this book is for you. Thoroughly enjoyable.
